Intellifone is a telecommunications provider specialising in broadband telephony across Australia. We enable customers to make considerable savings on their phone bill by using the power of broadband Internet to make phone calls.

Will I need to keep my existing phone service?

This will depend on the type of Internet connection you have. If you have ADSL broadband, then you will need to keep your existing phone service. If you have Naked DSL, cable or wireless then you won't need to have a phone line.

Do people I want to call need to have an Intellifone too?

No, you can use your Intellifone service to call anywhere in Australia and overseas. However, if you do know someone with an Intellifone you can call each other free of charge no matter where they are in the world!

How do I make a phone call with Intellifone?

You can use your phone just like you always have. Pick up the handset, listen for the dial tone and dial the number.

Will kind of telephones are supported?

Any type of corded or cordless telephone will work with our service.

Will I need to keep my computer switched on?

No, but you will need your modem router and voice box switched on to allow you to make and receive cheap calls!

Can I keep my existing phone number?

Yes! Speak to your current telephone provider and get them to put you onto the lowest monthly line rental.

Can I dial Emergency 000?

No, as Intellifone currently only offer a one-way phone service, we encourage our customers to retain their current phone line for use in emergency situations.

Will I be listed in the White Pages?

As Intellifone don't currently offer local numbers, please speak with your current provider regarding your White Pages listing.

Do you have any warranties or guarantees?

Yes. Our service comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee. All of our supplied equipment comes with 12 months manufacturers warranty.

What You Need

What equipment will I need?

To use our service, you will need:

  • a broadband Internet connection (eg: ADSL, cable or wireless)
  • a switch or router with a spare Ethernet port (contact us if you need help)
  • an Intellifone voice box (we will send you one of these).

What if I have dial-up?

Our service is incompatible with a dial-up Internet connection. Please contact your Internet provider to find out if you're able to upgrade to broadband.

How fast does my Internet connection need to be?

We recommend that your connection is at least 512/128k in order to have maximum call quality.

What if I have wireless Internet?

As the speed of your wireless connection can fluctuate in different locations, we recommend signing up to one of our test accounts to ensure you have a strong enough signal to use our service.

Internet Technology

What is VoIP?

VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol and is essentially the new way to make substancial savings on phone calls using your broadband Internet connection.

What is a VoIP Voice Box?

A voice box essentially acts as an adapter for your telephone handset, allowing you to connect your phone into your broadband connection to help save you money!

Can I use the computer while I am on the phone?

Yes, you can use your phone whenever your computer is on or off.

Can I supply my own VoIP Voice Box?

Yes! We can supply you with the details you need in order to connect it to our service.

Will my phone still work if I lose power?

No, this service requires power in order to function. All our voice boxes come with 'failover' capabilities, which redirects calls over your old phone line if your power or Internet connection has been interrupted. You will need to keep your old phone line active for this feature.

What if my Internet is connected via a USB port?

You may need to purchase a switch or router so you can connect our voice box to your broadband service. For details, please contact us.

Billing and Payments

What is the initial cost?

In most cases, all that you will require in addition to your existing setup is a voice box which we supply once you sign up. For our current deals on voice boxes, please check out our special offers.

Are there any hidden costs?

No, but calls made and received on our service contribute a very small amount to your monthly Internet allowance. In addition, we may charge you a small fee if your voice box was supplied by us at a discount rate and you terminate your account with us early.

Why are these calls so cheap?

We are able to offer significant savings by transmitting your phone calls over the Internet, thus reducing long distance costs.

Will I be bound to a contract?

No, we won't tie you down with a contact. You are simply billed each month and are free to leave at the end of any month. We may charge you a small fee if your voice box was supplied by us at a discount rate and you terminate your account with us early.

How will I be billed?

We process all payments with Paypal, which supports all major credit cards and electronic fund transfers.

Do you charge for incoming calls?

No, we only charge for outgoing calls.

Do you have flagfall or connection fees?

No. All timed calls are billed per second, after the first 60 seconds.

Can I view my bills and itemised calls online?

Yes, we offer real-time billing in our customer portal.

Can I have multiple phone numbers and lines?

No, Intellifone don't currently offer these features.

Can I change my plan easily?

Yes, you may change your plan once every billing cycle.

Is Intellifone easy to install?

Yes, all you need to do is connect your phone and broadband modem into the voice box we send you. All equipment is pre-configured and tested to work straight away. In fact, the hardest part is unpacking it from the box!
